Review of the Orston Conservation Area - Public Meeting Thursday 18th March. Around 35 intrepid villagers turned up on a wintry night. Tom Street TStreet@rushcliffe.gov.uk of Rushcliffe Conservation planning explained the objectives of the meeting:
1/ To seek the views of villagers on the proposed changes to the conservation area boundaries 2/ To get inputs from the village to enable Rushcliffe to complete a document which describes the Conservation Area.
There is a deadline of early March for all inputs.
1/ Changes to the boundary The proposed changes fall into two categories: - Minor changes, usually to create a logical boundary which follows physical features - Inclusion of green spaces that contribute to the character of the conservation area
It was explained that the marking of buildings and open spaces on the Draft Townscape appraisal as "Positive" had no legal implication - it was just a guide to describe the Conservation Area and its immediate surroundings.
A number of points were raised by villagers. These were recorded by Kath Daw, clerk to the Parish Council. These will be discussed at the Next Parish Council on Thursday 4th March. Everyone is invited to pass any further comments to Kath Daw or Eileen Harrison before the 1st of March. Alternatively eMail comments to Stewart Davidson at tsdavidson@tiscali.co.uk
The mood of the meeting seemed to support, in general, the inclusion of green spaces into the Conservation Area.
2/ Inputs to the "Conservation Area Appraisal" Inputs are required under the following headings: What is special about the buildings, streets and open spaces of Orston? What areas of the village merit improvement? Where are there opportunities to enhance the special character of Orston? Where are there threats to the character of the village?
There was some discussion and some specific points were noted by Kath Daw. As above - please tell Kath, Eileen or Stewart your further thoughts.
Stewart Davidson explained that he was analyzing the results of the Parish Survey. Everyone is invited to the next Village Plan Public meeting - 28th April at 7:30. The results of the survey will be presented at this meeting but in the meantime, he agreed to document the aspects relevant to the Conservation Area appraisal and pass them on to Rushcliffe.
