30 July - Orston lose to GORGS - Again!!!
Hoping to avenge their defeat last year to The Gentlemen of Rolleston Golf Society the 8 members of Orston’s team put in extra hours of practice in the pursuit of the win they craved. But it was to no avail, they lost by the same margin as in 2009, 3 Matches to 1.

John Billot & John Wright lost 6 and 4, Bob Clarke & Paul Howitt won 1 up, David Morris & Jim Leadbetter lost 5 and 4 and Paul Jennings and Ian Sporton were pipped on the final hole 1 down.

So it’s back to the drawing board for 2011. A big thank you to all our players and especially John Wright who kindly stepped in at an hour’s notice as poor John Smeeton fell off his ladder (playing with his plum tree or something). John has his arm in a sling while nurse Jean fusses around after him!!

Orston Golf Day 16 July - Belton Park - The Head’s Ahead.

A promise of downpours and gales didn’t keep the 37 golfers from Orston and surrounds from pitting their wits (if not golf skills) against the Belton Park Course. In fact most were rewarded with dry, if blustery, weather throughout and only the last couple of groups got a bit wet!
We all repaired to the Lounge Bar to discuss the incredible bad luck we all suffered resulting in balls bouncing the wrong way, putts defying gravity and “immovable” objects moving next to our ball!
The meal was served and the prize-giving got underway.
The full scores can be seen
here and photos of the day’s event can be viewed here (click on “slideshow” to get a good presentation). You can of course download any of the photos for your own use.
Our very grateful thanks are due to
Andy Tongue for organising the whole event, aided by Bob Clarke and Tony Benton. Chris Asher was busy with the scorecards at the end thus ensuring the prizes went the right way and of course we must not forget the staff, greenkeepers etc at Belton Park for an excellent day.

So it’s back to Belton Park next year as Rob wins the right to organise the event. Detention for anyone not there on the day and lines for those not playing to their handicap.

Golf Dinner and Presentation 9 December 2009

End of season presentation and dinner. Twenty members and other halves (legs arms etc) turned up at the Durham Ox for the annual soiree. It was also an opportunity to say goodbye to Nigel Rusby who is off to Oz for a couple of years. As Tony put it, “surely a tad over the top to avoid arranging the Away Day”. Any way Gail had put on some splendid fare of Lasagne followed by a well stocked cheese board and then it was time for the prize-giving. Runner-up for the Durham Ox Trophy was Tony Benton and our winner was IAN  (Call me Tiger) SPORTON. Well done Ian.
