23 November - Golf Dinner & Presentation Evening
An excellent evening provided by The Durham Ox meant the 26 members of the OVGS and their better halves finished 2011 with an event to linger in the memory. It was also a chance to meet the new owners of our local -Steven, Kylie and Anthony - who laid on some excellent fare. Many thanks to Tony Benton for arranging the evening AGAIN and the photos can be accessed here as well as being seen below.

2011 Autumn Meeting - 14 October
A fine day for the Autumn Meeting held for the first time at Newark GC. Richard Kenward had kindly offered to arrange the event and 14 Orstonians turned up to do battle. The format was both Individual and teams of three - best two to count. Like a lot of courses this year Newark’s fairways were struggling from the very dry summer but the greens were excellent.
The usual Bacon Baps and coffee were hastily extinguished and the golfers headed out hopefully on to the course.
We all arrived back at the clubhouse just as the light was beginning to disappear. Then it was off to the Durham Ox for Fish and Chips and the prize giving ceremony.
Winning Team was - Andy Holmes, Martin Hoskins and Tony Benton.
Nearest the Pin - Paul Raynor
Longest Drive - David Hayle
Individual Winner - Richard Kenward
An excellent day’s golf and our grateful thanks are due to Richard for a very well run event. Photos below.

Held at Belton Park GC on Friday 15th July Course in very good condition and we well looked after the various  members staff
Weather sunny with a light breeze ably organised by Rob Gullis along with stalwart assistance from Andy Tongue and Chris Asher plus a half way house manned by Rob and his daughter Georgina
11 Members 11 Guests and 4 ladies took part , unfortunately we had one or two last minute cry offs
Enjoyably evening along with wives for prize presentations and the thought that we could be back to Belton Park GC

3 June - Orston lose to GORGS, again - calls for manager Antonio Bentonio to be sacked!
Having lost to the GORGS for the past two years hopes were high within the Orston camp that the tables were about to be turned. Extra training had been the order of the day and the team looked hungry as they appeared at the Radcliffe Golf Club around midday. That was soon solved with a few bacon baps and a couple of beers and soon the teams locked horns for the battle of the century. There was a slight concern amongst the  distaff side as there was a distinct possibility their sun tans were going to be the wrong shape or something? This was sorted out and play began.
The teams meandered around the course on a beautiful warm sunny day and finally made their way to the 18th green where a crowd gathered in anticipation of an upset. Sadly it was not to be and GORGS once again took the honours by 31/2 to 21/2. The full results are below together with some photos of the day and our thanks are due to Tony and the Radcliffe Golf Club for an excellent day. Congratulations to
GORGS and Orston have already started the planning for 2012.

OVGS - Spring Championship 2011. 18 March
A fine sunny day at Cotgrave (oops The Nottinghamshire) for the first event of the year and 18 Orston Golfers dusted down their clubs and trolleys to get under way. First the Bacon Baps and Coffee needed quaffing and by golly were we good at that!
Then it was off to the first tee to test out the back and arms and then head off onto the Course which was in excellent condition. Gradually we snaked back in duly chastened with hopes dashed and excuses at the ready.
Never mind, there was the Beef Baguette and drinks to be finished (and by golly weren’t we good at that as well!) and then the prizes were announced: Nearest The Pin -
Andy Tongue, Longest (Straight) Drive - Jim Leadbetter, Ladies Prize - Penny Leadbetter, and our overall Winner with 38 points - Patrick Newton.
Very well done to them and a very special THANK YOU to
Patrick Newton and Jeff Dickinson for their hard work and dedication in arranging the whole event.

12 October - Orston Finals Day and 16 competitors turned up for this first-time event. The four finalists of the knock-out competitions battled their way round and the others competed for the usual stableford. nearest the pin and longest drive prizes. The winners can be found with the photos here.
