Cambodian Wells - some two years ago thanks to Two’s Company and the villagers of Orston the income from the Christmas Bazaar was donated to a charity dedicated to providing drinking wells for the villagers of Cambodia. This week (10 Dec) we received an email from two cyclists (husband and wife) currently cycling from London to Sydney, here:
“Hi
This might seem a bit random but my husband and I are currently most of the way through a year-long bike ride from London to Sydney (see www.londontosydneybybike.wordpress.com). We have been in Cambodia for a few days now and a couple of days ago while cycling between Koh Ker and Siem Reap we happened to pass a sign thanking the villagers of Orston for donating the money to build a well (see attached photos; the second one is me using the pump to fill our water bottles!).
Cambodia is a very poor country but despite this the people here are incredibly kind and generous, so it was really nice to see that some people from back home have made the effort to raise some money to improve living standards here - it is easily evident to us how much of a difference easy access to clean water makes, particularly in the dry season when there is precious little other water around.
So we just thought it would be nice to say 'good on you' and to send this photo so you can see where the villagers' money ended up. We found your email address on the Orston parish council website, perhaps you could pass on this email to anybody involved in the fundraising.”
Thanks and best wishes

They provided two photos as they paused by the wells. Here
Laptops for Kenya - whatever happened to them?
Good question, and here is the heartwarming answer from Caroline.
News on the laptops donated to Kianjai Kenya. Thank you to everybody who donated a laptop. Thanks also to Smellie and Savage who kindly cleaned all the machines and ensured they were in top condition. We took 8 laptops with us to Kenya, and they were received with great delight by the students and staff of Kianjai Girls School. The girls are having ongoing lessons on 6 of the computers, one laptop has been placed in the tiny staffroom to enable staff to access the internet, the head teacher is sharing the final laptop with the accountant. We were also pleased to find a local man with good computer knowledge who is supporting the laptops and giving the teachers further training. It was a great result. Thank you to everybody who made it happen. Photos below.
